The Prosecution Initiative was established in 1998 for the purpose of providing full-time support to North Central HIDTA initiatives. North Central HIDTA funds prosecutor positions which are utilized for the sole purpose of focusing on the prosecution of drug trafficking and drug money laundering cases. Primary purposes of the prosecution initiative include, but are not limited to:
- Reduce drug trafficking and associated violent crime in the Milwaukee metropolitan area by providing direct investigative and prosecutorial support to collocated HIDTA initiatives and HIDTA member agencies.
- Continuously focus on legal success of more complex Drug Trafficking Organization-level conspiracy and drug overdose cases.
- Work in conjunction with non-funded federal prosecutors to maximize prosecutorial and court resources, based on an investigation’s needs.
